BMW X1 facelift

 

The BMW X1 has been facelifted, and it gets a revised model line with a new range-topping model and a lower starting price.

 Outside, the exterior sees minor changes, starting with a new headlight design that now has rings around the LED daytime running lights if you choose the optional xenon headlamps. There are also new foglamp surrounds, less black plastic around the lower edge of the X1’s body and a more pronounced rear underguard. There are also new alloy wheel designs and new colours.

The X1’s cabin now has a redesigned centre console that BMW says is more driver oriented. It also claims that the X1 has better surface quality and finishes than the current range.

Two new ‘BMW Lines’ have been added to the X1 range. All ‘xLine’ models come with extended bumpers and sideskirts, a silver painted grille and air intakes, plus 18-inch alloys. Inside, xLines have a sports leather steering wheel matched to unique colour choices, and ‘X’ embossed seats.

The second new line is Sport. This also gets larger bumpers and side skirts, plus a gloss-black grille and black chrome exhaust tips. Sport models also have exclusive alloy wheel designs, while sports seats trimmed in anthracite fabric with red accents are added inisde. The red detailing extends to the leather gearshift and sports steering wheel, with black gloss trim or an exclucive optional aluminium instead.

Entry-level X1s still comprise the rear-wheel-drive sDrive18d SE and 4x4 xDrive18d SE. Both get a 141bhp 2.0-litre diesel. It’s also offered in Sport, xLine and M Sport versions, and can be fitted with an optional six-speed automatic. Prices start at £24,660.

The rest of the range is available with an optional eight-speed automatic, starting with the sDrive20d SE and xDrive20d SE. These now have a 181bhp 2.0-litre diesel, up from 174bhp, which returns 58mpg and 129g/km of CO2 in the sDrive20d manual. Prices start at £26,090. 

The efficiency leader is the sDrive20d EfficientDynamics, which is mechanically unchanged and offers 63mpg and 119g/km of CO2 from its 161bhp 2.0-litre turbodiesel. Its price is unchanged, too, at £26,090. 

Finally, the xDrive25d replaces the xDrive23d as the range-topper. It's only offered in xLine and M Sport trim and its 2.0-litre turbodiesel produces 214bhp and 540Nm of torque, up from the old car's 202bhp. A 0-62mph time of 6.8-seconds is half a second faster, while it achieves 48mpg and 154g/km of CO2 against the previous 47mpg and 158g/km of CO2. It’s priced from £32,860.

The new BMW X1 goes on sale in July.
